Sea Turtle Nesting Seasons
Different species of turtles come to the beaches and coasts of Costa Rica to nest. The species that are easier to see include the Green Turtle, along the Caribbean in Tortuguero, the Olive Ridley, on the Pacific Coast, and the Leatherback turtle, which nestles in the Pacific, but there arrives today in very low numbers. They do, however, nest and arrive ashore with quite success and large numbers along the Caribbean, specifically in Barra de Pacuare. The nesting season of the Olive Ridley really extends throughout the year, however, the rainy season is almost certain to be able to observe these incredible marine reptiles nesting on the beaches of Costa Rica. We recommend some sites, including Ostional, and Nancite, which have the famous Arribadas. Other very good sites are in several beaches of Guanacaste, as well as in the Central Pacific and South. As for the Caribbean, the Gree Sea turtle is easier to see starting in July and up to September, and something similar happens with the Leatherback Turtle, which can be seen in Barra de Pacuare between March and July.
