Marine Sea Turtles of Costa Rica
Sea Turtles come to Costa Rica in great and healthy numbers. Different sea turtles species are currently endangered, falling prey to fishing nets, plastic pollution, hunting ( Food source and beauty articles ) and natural pray. In Costa Rica, tourism industry and the government have made a huge effort to protect the main sea turtle species, including the Leatherback, The Hawksbill, The Green Sea Turtle and the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle. There are currently vast regions that are protected by law, creating save havens for sea turtles to arrive, nest and later hatch, and so commence the lifecycle again, which lasts for years.
Volunteering programs in Costa Rica are also happening in several regions, including Tortuguero National Park, Barra de Pacuare, Gandoca Manzanillo, Nancite and Naranjo Beaches in the Santa Rosa National Park, Playa Grande and Ventanas in Guanacaste, Ostional, Playa Buena Vista, Camaronal and Corozalito, Punta Mala, and the Osa Peninsula and the Golfo Dulce. You can also book sea turtle tours, which happen at night. With some variants, the consist in accompanying a local scientists and guide when they patrol the uninhabited beaches at night, to see the spectacle of Sea turtle Nesting and also, a few months later, the amazing spectacle of the Sea Turtle Hatching.
