Sloths in Tortuguero
The sloth is one of the most emblematic animals of Costa Rica. This mammal, famous for its curious appearance, as well as for its slow, rather lethargic movements, lives in the trees of the Tortuguero jungles. It feeds on the leaves of the trees, one of its favorites being a cecropia, or also called Guarumo, one of the pioneer species of trees (a species that when the forest regenerates, is, because of its rapid growth, the species that grows first). Seeing sloths in Tortuguero is extremely common and practically all tourists get to see them in one of the tours through the channels of the national park, or in some private reserve of the different hotels of Tortuguero.
