Tortuguero 2 days Economy Tour
Price $ 155.00 per person + VAT
The tour includes 1 night of lodging in the charming and rustic hotel La Casona, located in the center of Tortuguero. It includes breakfasts.
The rustic but charming hotel La Casona offers personalized service in the center of the village of Tortuguero, in a thin tongue of land between the main Laguna de Tortuguero and the Caribbean Sea. It is located just 50 meters from the beach and the main walking area. The rooms offer a TV area and hammocks. It is a small lodge, with only 12 rooms, but the service is dedicated and has a cozy atmosphere.
The tour - package with La Casona includes two activities in Tortuguero, the canoe tour through the canals and to choose between the night walk or the turtle tour (from July to October).
The canoe tour begins with a rich coffee in the offices, and then leaves in the direction of the National Park entrance. Once there, we proceed to carry out the entry protocols and we enter the natural channels of Tortuguero. The dense rainforest surrounds this immense system of canals and lagoons, a site of enormous bio - diversity and unique landscapes.
The tour can be carried out in paddle canoes or electric motor boat. Both options are included and have the same advantage, being able to get closer to wildlife without scaring it by the sound of engine noise, without a doubt the best option to develop sustainable tourism.
The night walk starts at 6 in the afternoon. The first thing to do is put on rubber boots. Once that is done, we will enter the dense rainforest. This tour is very exclusive and few people really offer to explore the tropical rainforests of Tortuguero National Park. During the journey, about 2 hours, the guide will go in search of the immense variety of fauna and flora that inhabit the jungle. We can find a great variety of insects, birds, perhaps nocturnal mammals, snakes, frogs and reptiles.
The tour takes place at night and lasts two hours. During September to October, Tortuguero becomes one of the main nesting sites for sea turtles, of various species. The species that arrives the most is the Caribbean Green Turtle, which uses Tortuguero as its main nesting site in the Caribbean Sea. The tour departs at 5:30 PM. The guide will take you to a place on the beach where the exploration will begin. There is nothing so impressive to see these huge marine reptiles lay their eggs in the sand nests they build. Some months, especially September and October, are ideal since you can see both the nesting of the Turtles as well as the birth of turtles, when they leave their eggs and nests and quickly enter the sea.
The tour includes rubber boots, flashlight, safety equipment, poncho, binoculars, coffee and tea before the canoe tour. The entrance to the National Park as well as meals are not included.
What to bring?
In order not to scare the turtles, it is necessary to wear dark clothes, hopefully black or also very dark blue or green. Repellent, sandals or comfortable shoes, sunscreen, rain shield, water and camera are recommended. It is not allowed to carry a camera for the Turtles tour. It is also recommended to carry cash.
The transportation service for this tour is multi-destination to pick up and drop off in (San José, Arenal or South Caribbean).
