Day 1: Departure at 6 30 AM approximately from your hotel in San Jose. After crossing the amazing Braulio Carrillo National Park, we will arrive in Guapiles for a delicious breakfasts. After an hour drive, we will reach the Tortuguero docks. Once there, we will take the boat and navigate down the river ( 1 hour ) to the amazing Tortuguero National park canals. Arrival at the lodge, check in and then, a delicious lunch awaits us. Spend time relaxing in the room or enjoying the pool. After, at around 3 PM, we will take you for a visit to the town of Tortuguero. You will be able to spend time there along exploring the little streets, bars and restaurants, or bus some souvenirs or visit the Sea Turtle Museum. After 2 hours, we will return to the lodge. Arrival, time at leisure and later, dinner time. Overnight at the Lodge.
Day 2: Early morning breakfasts. Today, we will visit the Tortuguero Canals by boat. The entrance fees are not included, but the guide will take you to the park ranger station for you to purchase them in cash. After, we will explore the Tortuguero Canals. This vast territory of tropical rainforests and its network of canals is home to thousands of species of wildlife, including hundreds of species of animals like three species of monkeys, Tapirs ( rare ); ocelots ( rare ), Jaguars ( rare ) Pumas ( rare ), Coati Mundis, Racoons, Caimans, Crocodiles, River Turtles, and hundreds of species of birds. Many amphibians are also home here, including poisonous dart frogs and more. The vegetation is equally incredible. After, we will return to the lodge. Lunch is waiting. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the lodge facilities, such as the pool, or if you book us a lodge on the beach, walk along the beach in search of more wildlife. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Breakfasts. Departure back to Guapiles. Arrival at around noon in Guapiles. Lunch awaits. After lunch, we will take you to the higher altitudes of the Siquirres Mountain Range, for the put in section. First, our guides will introduce themselves, teach you basis survival skills, paddling comandos and procedures and then, you will get on the raft for a super exciting jungle white water rafting adventure down on of the world’s best rafting rivers, and also, perhaps the most scenic ones, surrounded by endless tropical jungles and evergreen and wild rainforests that connect to the La Amistad International Conservation park uninterruptedly. At around 4 – 5 PM, you will arrive at the lodge, located on the right on the river. Disembark, check in, and some time at leisure. Later, dinner at the dining hall restaurant. After, you can also enjoy some beers, drinks or cocktails before going to bed.
Day 4: Breakfasts. Prepare for the second section of the infamous Pacuare River. Another 2 hour of exhilarating rapids await. Not only is the Pacuare well known for its rapids, for being epicenter of several international rafting and kayaking championships, but also for being one with the most amazing surroundings, one of endless tropical jungles, that are inhabited not only by the local wildlife, one of the richest in variety in the world, but also by its native Cabecar Indigenous People. After reaching the slower moving section of the river in Siquirres, we will disembark, go to the changing rooms and then, enjoy a delicious lunch. After, we will return back. Please advice if you are continuing back to San Jose, Arenal or the South Caribbean ( Cahuita or Puerto Viejo ). All transfers back to San Jose are included, but some lodges also include a transfer to Arenal ( La Fortuna ) or the South Caribbean ( Cahuita or Puerto Viejo ) for free.
